10,000 people have been killed in super typhoon Haiyan that hit the central Philippines on Friday, according to a police chief in the area

В результате одного из самых мощных тайфунов за всю историю могли погибнуть по меньшей мере 10 тысяч филиппинцев. "Хайян" снес до 80% построек на своем пути, пронесшись над провинцией Лейте и разрушая прибрежные деревни.

Число жертв в прибрежных поселениях пока еще не определено, а выжившие столкнулись с проблемой отсутствия продовольствия.

В городе Таклобан с населением порядка 220 тысяч человек сотни тел погибших сложены вдоль дорог, а часть людей оказалась придавлена обломками собственных домов. Из-за расположения города в бухте, где образовывались особенно высокие волны, ущерб стал особенно велик.

Таклобан и окрестности завалены мусором, обломками домов, порванными и спутанными линиями электропередач.

Также стало известно, что около 80% города Васо с населением в 35 тысяч человек, покрыто водой.

На месте катастрофы орудуют банды мародеров и грабителей.

Затронул "Хайян" и вьетнамское побережье, где сообщается о шести погибших, а 883 тысячи человек были переведены властями в безопасные места. Также предпринимают меры предосторожности и в Китае, Лаосе и Камбодже.

Международные организации приступают к оказанию помощи Филиппинам, что может быть осложнено разрушением нескольких аэропортов и структурой государства, состоящего из 7 тысяч островов. В стране нарушено транспортное сообщение, не работает 7 тысяч школ.

Ослабление тайфуна не означает прекращение бедствий, так как шторм может повлечь за собой проливные дожди, наводнения, оползни и ветра, информирует Daily Mail.
